Halloween Vignette

Just wanted to share my Halloween Vignette I put together. Still have more decorating to do, but figured this is a good start. :)

 I have tutorials for several of the items shown here, you'll find the links to those step by step tutorials at the end of the post. :)

My goal for Halloween decor was to keep it classy. Here are a few detail shots. 

Polka Dot Pumpkins

Here is a super easy and cute little Halloween Decor idea. I love these Polka Dot Pumpkins!

Supplies:

• Pumpkins
• Black adhesive vinyl 
• Scissors

I bought these white ceramic pumpkins and wanted to be able to use them for Halloween and Fall. I decided to customize them for Halloween...but in a temporary way so I would have a blank canvas again for my Fall/Thanksgiving decor. I went into my stash and found some black adhesive backed vinyl. You can find this at most craft stores!

I just cut off a little section to cut the circles by hand.

Now grab those scissors and cut some circles! If you have a craft cutting machine like a silhouette you can cut them out with that too. I have one, but honestly it was just easier doing it by hand!

Peel off the back and start sticking them on your pumpkin.

You have to press them down to get them to stay. And there you have it. Easy polka dot pumpkins that are super cute and also are easy to remove the polka dots for a different fall look. Love the versatility with the vinyl. :)

Simple Gallery Wall

I have had a blank wall behind our couch for over a year now. It's been driving me crazy but I just haven't been able to decide what to do with it. Finally I decided to do a gallery wall. With loads of inspiration from pinterest, I went shopping.

Those of you who are following me over on facebook already saw a sneak peak of my gallery wall. I am almost finished up and can't wait to post the reveal. I have been working on it all summer! I tend to have trouble making decisions. Anyways, in the middle of the pictures I wanted a family saying. Here is what I came up with. {Together we make a FAMILY}. I first painted my wood board (I have this routered edged board for a while) a flat white paint. Then I cut out a stencil with my sillouette on cardstock.

Easy Jewelry Organizer

Since our move, I have needed a place to put some of my jewelry. I prefer it out of the way of my main room, but still easily accessible. I keep my earrings and most rings in a jewelry box because I don't wear them that often. I always wear my hair down so earrings never really show! Anyways, I had this blank wall in our master closet and thought it would work perfect for what I had in mind. A wrought iron decorative set of hooks I got at hobby lobby years ago!

I just anchored and screwed it in. Perfect solution!

I hang necklaces, watchbands, bracelets, headbands, and my commonly worn rings on the hooks. It's easy access and kind of cute! Plus being in my closet makes it even easier to quickly accessorize my outfits.

Decorating Dilemma

I'm not sure why, but I have only hung one thing on the wall the entire month we have lived here. I just can't seem to decide what I want to put where! Furniture placement was a given, there was only 1 way our furniture could go, but the decorating has me at a loss. For instance, take the mantle:

Cue the 1 thing I have hung up so far, a picture I took of where I got married.

 That's it...for the whole house, only thing hung up. Now that I have the picture...what do I use as accessories? I have a whole room full of all kinds of items...but I can't make up my mind of what I want where! Want to see some more of my headache inducing spaces(these are in my living room only...I still have my whole dang house to consider)?

Now I have tried to put things around...but I just end of getting annoyed and stacking them all on our armoire. Here are a few of the things I have tried on our mantle at different times these past few weeks. (don't mind the fake plant that got smashed in the move...lol)

I wanted to add some antiques with my current decor, but I am not sure its going to work, hence the reason I  have everything stacked up there...and all my other stuff is still stowed away. Why can't I make up my mind? Nothing is looking quite right, maybe if I get my curtains and accent pillows made things will become more clear? I even tried to brighten up our front porch to see if that would be one space I could conquer. I went and bought planters for outside and attempted to get some flowers even though I know they only have like a month until it will be too cold to survive here. :) Let's just say, there are no decent flowers anywhere anymore! Most stores are closing them out and so this is what I came home with...clearly ridiculous and sparce...I have got to get more to fill the planter, its so sad looking. :)

So yeah...decorators block going on here. Hence the reason I have read like 15 books in the last few weeks...I love avoiding work, especially when I just can't get it to come together! Avoid and postpone apparently is my new motto. :)

A Touch of Fall

I finally took some pictures of my fall decor to share. I am not huge into Halloween. I like it, I do a little party, but I tend to steer away from the gore and keep it more fall-ish. I like that these decorations last me for a couple months until I am ready to pull out Christmas! Here are a few of my little touches. I don't have much extra space so I try and use what I already display and just add fall to it.

A touch of garland for the candlesticks.

Notice below that the one candlestick just has a little piece of berries that I twisted into a circle and set on top of the candlestick. I think its pretty cute!

My harvest blocks. Lovin' those. Made them a few years ago and am always excited to pull them out each year.

I have 2 shelves in my kitchen. I tried to add a few things to make them fall-ier. :)

Love the wheat below! I found it last year on clearance at hancock fabric.

 

I am not a huge outdoor decorator. We only have a small porch and we are planning to move across the country again next summer so we are trying to keep it simple. However, I knew I had to get some mums. Nothing says fall here like mums! Aren't these gorgeous with the 2 tones? I planted them last week so they aren't super full yet, but I still love them.

Top off the porch with the pumpkins we went and picked at the pumpkin patch last Friday. I don't know why but there is just something super fun about going out into the field and finding the "perfect" pumpkin for your family.

Just one last thing...Yeah, this is what is happening to some of my decor. I am finding my gourds all over my house. My son likes to 'decorate' with them. Kids are fun. :)
