Thanksgiving Placecard Printable

Just wanted to pop in and offer this super cute chalkboard Thanksgiving Placecard printable. I recommend printing these on cardstock, and you can either write on them with a white or  light colored sharpie, or you can open up the file in photo editing software and type the names right on before you print them.

Thanksgiving Ideas Roundup

I'm popping in to share a roundup of past Thanksgiving Projects and free printables I have shared here on Blooming Homestead in the last few years. I love all of these little creations and the Gratitude tree is still a family favorite! It's such a fun idea that the family will love to "Count their Blessings"!

Give Thanks Frame

Sometimes simple things are my favorite. I am noticing that with my home decor especially I am looking for more calm colors and simple decor. I found this cute frame at TJ Maxx.
I really love it. I decided to add a little burlap and then had my sister in law make me some vinyl. I really love how simple and beautiful it is!

A Thankful Turkey??

Here is a little something we have been doing around our house for a few years now. The kids will love it, heck even grown ups think its fun. I made this little thankful turkey from supplies bought at hobby lobby. I can't remember what this cost, I am sure it wasn't very frugal. My big ideas never are:(. I will try and go through how I made it (no real tutorial though since that was like 3 years ago!), but I threw out the foam ball part when we moved since I was looking to save space. Should have just kept it, those foam things can be so expensive! I think this new one was $4.99 at hobby lobby. I used a coupon though. :)  I actually made this for our primary sharing time at church, but it has since been adopted by our family. My supplies: brown paint, foam ball, cardboard, red, brown, and yellow felt, t-pins, 24 feathers (or however many you want), 2 big googly eyes, and hot glue.

I got some paint and watered it down and painted over the entire foam ball. Let it dry thoroughly. I am sure it would be easier with spray paint. I didn't have brown spray paint so I used what I had.
Then I got a piece of cardboard and cut out a circle for my turkeys face. I covered it with brown felt, just hot glued it right on. (First I used sobo craft glue, but it wasn't holding the felt down so I went a little crazy with the hot glue.) I cut out the beak from yellow felt and the wattle from red felt (red hangy thing). Glued those both on and some big googly eyes too. I then took the leftover yellow felt and drew turkey legs to attach to the ball.

When the ball was dried, I just took a round tool (screwdriver or whatever you can find) and poked holes to add the feathers on the back of the turkey. I spaced them evenly apart in rows, about 8 holes per row. This helps so that your feathers do not break when you insert them into the foam. Perfect for reusing this year after year, otherwise your feathers won't last.
Next I took a t-pin (or whatever its called!) and just pinned the turkey face onto the front of the foam ball. Next I pinned the legs under the face, they just hang there.
Now you just take turns "passing" the turkey around naming something you are thankful for while inserting a feather. I use about 24 multicolored feathers. At the end, you see what a beautiful turkey you have to compliment the beautiful life you have and all your blessings!

Another {Thankful} Idea

Thanks to the ladies at eighteen 25 for sharing this fantastic idea. They have this awesome tradition for a book of thanks in their family. I knew immediately that I wanted to do this as well. This will be something fun we can pull out each year, I plan to add pictures each year too. I think through time this will be a treasured piece of our lives! I went to hobby lobby and bought a sketch book. I loved the brown recycled look of this one. I wanted something without lines. I also picked up some acid free pens as well. I already had some fall ribbon and some burlap from another craft I made.

I just cut the burlap into a strip roughly 1 1/5 inches wide. I also cut ribbon to match.
I put them together and tied them around the front cover of the book to make it cute but still very functional.
There you have it, easy peasy. I plan to keep this out on our side table and whenever anyone feels inspired to write a little note of thanks or whatever, we will have it to share. I also plan to date the page entries with the year. This goes perfectly with my thankful tree we are doing!

I'm thankful for...

So I know I am jumping the gun, since I still have some Halloween projects going on, but this is something I wanted to have ready for monday, Nov 1st. I made a thankful tree, each day at dinnertime we will take a leaf and write a blessing we are thankful for in our lives. I really want to recognize as a family all we have to be grateful for and there's no better time! At first this was just going to be a random thing on our fridge, but I decided that unless it was "cutes-ied"yes I make up words up, it would bother me so I went to work making it a little cuter. This was super easy though and I am happy with how it turned out.
First I took some craft foam I already had, most people would probably use paper since we will probably throw away the leaves and start anew next year anyways, but I had the foam and decided to go with it.
First I took brown and cut my tree and branches.
Then I cut out various colors and shapes of leaves. I am sure most people with a cool cricut or silhouette (I'm saving for one!), can cut these quick, but since I don't have one and the only leaf punch I have is small...I did it by hand. Didn't take too long. I even went out into the yard to find my "stencil".
I cut out yellow, orange, and red leaves. (don't judge...I am horrible and cutting recognizable shapes!) Then I went and found an empty frame I had laying around that would fit my tree. I found this 10x20 frame I have been meaning to use and hadn't and thought it would be perfect!
Next I just printed a little tag to adhere to the tree base. I burnt the edges since I didn't want to dig out my ink I know so lazy!. Then I punched a little hole and tied the tag around the tree base with raffia. I then taped the tree onto the scrapbook paper in the frame. It hung out the frame...which is kind of how I wanted it so I chose not to trim it. I just thought it looked cool like that especially when we add the leaves to it.
Now my "thankful" tree is all ready to go for Monday!
